Censuses say the city is the 80nd largest city in the United States, with a population over 200,000. Scottsdale was originally inhabited by Hohokam between 300 BC to 1400 AD. These ancient civilizations farmed the area and built irrigation canals. The name Hohokam means vanished, as the civilization mysteriously disappeared without a trace.

Scottsdale is a premiere shopping destinations of the southwest. It is home to many upscale boutiques with many stores such as Tiffany's reporting their Scottsdale location as one of the best in the nation. There are over 15 shopping centers, including the upscale Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Fashion Square. Scottsdale is home to many designers including Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Juicy Couture, and Escada.

If you like a warm and dry climate Scottsdale is a great place to look for a home. There is very little rainfall and the temperatures during the summer months is often in the 100F or higher range. Old Scottsdale has a lot of charming western shops with Indian art and great restaurants.
